The town of Aguas Calientes, as the Spanish name suggests, has hot springs and is just a 15-minute walk up the Pachacutec Avenue from the town's main square. These are natural, underground, hot sulphur springs, which bubble up from the rocky ground.
The Quechua name of this mountain means “Happy Mountain,” and visitors will need to be physically fit to navigate some of its steeper sections. Once at the peak, hikers are rewarded with a very special view of Machu Picchu.
