Los Angeles–based Michael S. Smith (President Obama's designer of choice) created striking interiors.
The Lowell was originally built as an apartment hotel in the 1920’s, and today travelers return for the property's legendary home-away-from-home feel. Though the stately townhouse is located in the heart of Manhattan’s storied Upper East Side, a block from upscale Madison Avenue boutiques and Park Avenue penthouses, it feels removed from the bustle, on a quiet residential side street. Interior designer Michael S. Smith (President Obama's designer of choice) created interiors striking for their understated colors, elegant silk drapes and rich mahogany furniture. Many of the rooms feature terraces, kitchenettes and wood-burning fireplaces, in sync with the pied-à-terre theme. The well-trained staff is accustomed to a high-profile clientele and will quietly and efficiently procure or arrange anything.
