The historic hotel has furnishings created by such design greats as Charles and Ray Eames and Josef Hoffmann.
Zurich’s Widder Hotel, built on the site of Roman and Celtic ruins, comprises nine medieval houses decorated with 15th-century frescoes. Given its historic depth, it is not surprising that architect Tilla Theus’s painstaking transformation took more than ten years. Every room is individually styled to mix the past, represented in the unusual circular rooms and passages, which refer to the Roman well uncovered during construction; and the modern, seen in furnishings created by such design greats as Charles and Ray Eames, and Frank Lloyd Wright. The Widder Bar offers over 300 single-malt whiskeys and is well-known in the jazz world, presenting stars like Diana Krall and Benny Green during the bi-annual concert series. The Widder Restaurant, overseen by Dietmar Sawyere, serves a creative international menu.
