Museum Must-See
A trip into the past! Anhatomirim Island houses the Fortress of Santa Cruz, the third vertex of a triangular system of defense. This system protected the bar north of the island of Santa Catarina of foreign investment - mainly from Spain - and consolidate the Portuguese occupation of southern Brazil eighteenth century. The island played major roles in the history of the region. Nowadays, this museum and its guided tours takes you back to the last few centuries.
Top Day Trip
A secluded hideaway in the middle of Ganchos Bay, which surfers and fishermen consider it as simply paradise. Praia de Fora offers one hundred meters of beautiful white sand pristine beaches that meet choppy waters with an invigorating chill to it. During June and July, see the local fishermen at dusk and at dawn, bringing in their catches of tainha (mullet) in the traditional manner.
Top Architecture Find
Founded by the Azorean settlers, this was the first community in the state of Santa Catarina and up to this day very strong links with this colonization still exists. In contrast to the chaos of modern life, here time seems to have come to a standstill as the sleepy atmosphere of a nineteenth-century village has been preserved.
