Gstaad, Switzerland
Gstaad Palace is one of the only family-owned and -operated hotels in Switzerland, and guests are treated like extended members of the family (big-names who have checked in here have included Louis Armstrong, Liz Taylor and Marc Chagall). During World War II, the hotel housed other treasures: owing to its isolated location on the upper mountainside, the Swiss government hid a large portion of the country’s gold reserves in a two-storey bunker at the hotel. Today, this historic space serves as La Fromagerie, with a Champagne truffle fondue, and the terrace of the famous Lobby Bar. Here, guests can listen to live music, enjoy afternoon tea or sip Champagne late into the night. For something more formal, dine at Le Restaurant, Le Grill Rôtisserie, or at authentic Italian Gildo’s Ristorante.

Zermatt, Switzerland
Located in the shadow of the mighty Matterhorn, the chic resort of Zermatt is an unspoiled sanctuary for skiers, and the Mont Cervin Palace is an elegant home away from home. Cars are not allowed in the town, so guests travel from the train station by covered horse-drawn carriage, a foretaste of the hotel’s signature quaint charm and warm hospitality. The rooms are decorated in different styles, from rustic Alpine to luxurious contemporary, but all have stunning views of the Mischabel mountain chain, the Edelweiss or, of course, the Matterhorn. After enjoying the 400 kilometers of hiking trails and 350 kilometers of ski slopes, guests will welcome a retreat to the 1,700-square-meter Wellness & Spa with outdoor pool and magnificent mountain views. Three in-house fine dining restaurants.

Zermatt, Switzerland
On a small plateau above Zermatt, the Riffelalp Resort 2222m has the distinction of being Europe’s highest luxury hotel. Built in 1884 as a summer-only enclave, the property enjoys such a lofty location that it's one of the few hotels in the world that is unreachable by car. Throughout the 19th century, Europe’s high society would check into the Riffelalp for six weeks at a time to relax and rejuvenate. Today, ski and nature lovers take advantage of the mild microclimate and unique location in the heart of the Gornergrat skiing and hiking area. The region has a nine-hole golf course. Dining options includes The Alexandre, Walliserkeller, Ristorante al Bosco, Mark Twain Lounge and Dine Around.
