Museum Must-See
Orongo is a stone village and ceremonial center at the southwestern tip of Rapa Nui (Easter Island). It consists of a collection of low, sod-covered, windowless, round-walled buildings with even lower doors positioned on the high south-westerly tip of the large volcanic caldera called Rano Kau. Below Orongo on one side a 300-meter barren cliff face drops down to the ocean; on the other, a more gentle but still very steep grassy slope leads down to a freshwater marsh inside the high caldera. Orongo now has World Heritage status as part of the Rapa Nui National Park.

The Tapati Rapa Nui, literally translated as the Rapa Nui Week, is a cultural festival that takes place every year for ten days or two weeks in February. Both inhabitants and travelers are divided into competing teams and the winning team gets to crown the Queen of Tapati. Ancient games are played like haka pei, sliding down a cliff on a banana tree log, rowing across waters on a reed Tortora raft and balancing a bushel of bananas over your shoulder. Participants paint their bodies with natural pigments and get to explain the meaning of their paintings to the community.
