Property Overview
Relax in comfort and luxurious style on the grounds of a former Italian monastery and enjoy the slow flow of time. Relais San Maurizio is found within an ancient XVII century monastery that is just as enchanting now as it was during its founding. In 1619, Cistercian monks founded San Maurizio on the hallowed ground of a former chapel. The centuries that followed saw the property through several different lives, finally arriving at its current incarnation as a luxury spa resort in the early 2000s. An abiding sense of history and character infuses every aspect of the handsome hotel and grounds, from the original stone facade to the gorgeously tended vineyards and olive tree groves. The section that once accommodated the monks now houses the guestrooms and suites, all with distinctive styles that feature classical details like vaulted ceilings, inlaid wood floors and elegant décor. Produce from the resort’s own organic gardens influences both the on-site restaurants’ cuisine and the spa treatment skincare products, and beyond. Paying respect to the resort’s unique history, wine vaults are located in the depths of the hotel, where the Michelin-starred restaurant Guido da Costigliole is located. Don’t miss the spa’s salt cave and the wine hammam, and if you visit during the summer months, drink in the scenery of the vineyards from the heated outdoor pool.
